Getting started with the Control Station
The one idea that makes everything else click: you write the rules once, and your events pick them up on their own.
Why it works this way#
If you had to open every single event and configure its resale settings by hand, two things would happen: it would eat your whole week, and sooner or later something would slip through with the wrong setup. Multiply that by a busy calendar and it simply doesn't scale.
So menta turns it around. You describe how a type of event should behave, and any event that fits the description follows those rules on its own — including events you haven't even created yet.
Sets and inheritance#
The Control Station has two ways to look at your resale market: Rule sets and Events. A rule set is a reusable resale configuration; an event gets assigned to a set and behaves the way that set says. Each set shows you at a glance whether listing and buying are on, its minimum and maximum price, and how many events are currently using it.
- There's always a fallback. A "Default Rules" set catches every event that doesn't match any other condition — so nothing is ever left without rules.
- Start from Sets when you want to define standard behavior for many events at once.
- Start from Events when you need to look at one specific event and see which set it's following.
The two tabs inside a set#
Open any rule set and its configuration is split into two tabs:
- General Rules. Everything about how the market behaves, grouped into four blocks — Availability, Pricing & marketplace, Time, and Notifications & advanced. The full walkthrough is in General Rules.
- Automations. Dynamic "when X happens, do Y" rules that adjust the set in real time. See Automations.
Separate from these tabs, each set also has assignment conditions — the rules that decide which events inherit it. That's its own topic: see rule set assignment.
A few sets worth keeping around#
Most teams don't reinvent their setup every time. They keep a handful of ready-made sets for the situations that come up again and again. Common ones:
- Default Rules. The baseline new events fall back to.
- Market ON. Resale fully open — listing and buying.
- Market OFF. Resale completely closed.
- Listing only. Sellers can list, but buying isn't open yet.
- Late closing. Keeps resale open as close to the event as possible (say, 3 to 5 hours before, depending on the show) to squeeze out every last sale.
- Capped maximum price. A price ceiling (for example, 65% or 100% above the original) to meet local rules or a commercial strategy.
- Venue-specific sets. Configurations tailored to a particular venue.
And once you pair these with automatic assignment, new events are born already wearing the right set — based on their location, promoter, or any condition you choose — with nothing to configure by hand.
Check before you save#
Before you commit a set, the Test rules button shows you exactly which events your assignment conditions would catch. It opens an "Events found" window with the matching list — or tells you plainly that nothing matches. It's the quick sanity check that confirms a set will land where you expect, with no surprises after the fact.
